Technologies at Our Dental Clinic
At Cornerstone Dental Group - Dr Rex Hawthorne and Associates, the technology we use helps to inform treatment planning and make your dental appointments more efficient. Because we can display digital x-rays and scans on the monitors in our treatment rooms, we can show you any issues in your mouth and walk you through your treatment plan.

Dental Magnification & Illumination
Our loupes (magnifying glasses), operating microscope, and auxiliary LED illumination technologies allow our dentists and hygienists to perform treatments with greater precision and diagnose issues earlier.
Soft Tissue Dental Lasers
In dentistry, lasers (extremely focused light beams) can be used in a variety of procedures involving the soft tissues of the mouth such as gums. This technology is used by our team of dental professionals to treat periodontal disease, address other gum issues, and treat oral ulcers and cold sores.
CEREC Same-Day Restorations
CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is a system that allows for the fabrication and placement of ceramic dental crowns, inlays and onlays in a single appointment. No impressions or temporaries necessary - just tooth-coloured restorations in one visit.
X-Rays
Digital X-Rays
Our digital x-ray technology uses digital sensors instead of traditional photographic x-ray film to produce highly detailed computer images of the teeth, gums, and other oral structures and conditions. Digital x-rays allow your dentist to examine parts of the mouth that are not visible to the naked eye.
Panoramic X-Rays
Panoramic x-rays allow your dentist to create a single image of your entire mouth including the teeth, upper and lower jaws, temporomandibular joints (TMJ), and the nasal and sinus structures. Panoramic x-rays are useful in treatment planning for reconstructive services.
Scanners
Intraoral Scanners
Intraoral scanners create detailed digital dental impressions of your mouth. Your dentist uses an optical scanning wand to take an image of your teeth which is displayed on screen in real-time. This device allows your dentist to create digital replicas of the hard and soft tissues of your mouth.
Cone Beam Cat Scan
Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a special type of x-ray machine that generates 3D images of dental structures, soft tissues, nerve paths and bone in the craniofacial region all within a single scan. Images obtained with CBCT allow for more precise treatment planning.
